The Douglas DC-3 is an iconic aviation workhorse from the WWII era that any aviation enthusiast should recognize. The DC-3’s impressive resume includes use in the early years of the aviation industry as an airliner, in WWII as a troop/logistics transport, and later in the Vietnam War as the infamous “Puff The Magic Dragon” in a close air-support role.
This image was taken at Falcon Field in Mesa, Arizona. Though others have commented that this image is unremarkable, it honestly lives among my personal favorites of aviation photographs to date. Something about the aged sheet-metal faceted in the fading sunlight of the day gives this image deep and rich texture that plays well with the Solarization technique I applied to the print.
